"Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father."   (Ephesians 5:18-20)

The goals of the music ministry at First Baptist Church are to glorify God and to edify His church.

Strong congregational singing, choral music, and instrumental music along with music by soloists and small ensembles characterize our worship assemblies. From September to May, the music in our services also includes that of the Orchestra.

Musical ensembles at First Baptist include the Sanctuary Choir, Youth Choir, graded Children’s Choirs, and the Handbell Choir. The Sanctuary Choir sings a wide range of choral music, from hymn settings to gospel music, from the contemporary to the historical. The choir presents a beautiful Hanging of the Green service annually, and in 2002 presented the U.S. premier of Three Easter Mosaics by Hungarian composer Antal Szak. The First Baptist Youth Choir sings frequently in our worship assemblies, travel during the summer, and has gained recognition for its excellence in performing. The graded Children’s Choirs provide valuable opportunities for our children, not only for musical performance but for directed spiritual development. In addition, First Baptist holds a children’s music camp each August during which a children’s musical is learned and performed. First Baptist’s Handbell Choir rings five octaves and plays frequently both at home and at other locations.

Many opportunities abound at First Baptist for a person to use his gifts in God’s service as well as having those gifts further developed. Come and be a part of the music at First Baptist as we joyfully seek to glorify God and to build one another up in Christ.
